Action Aid

Thirty thousand children will die today because they didn’t get enough to eat. But there’s no reason for anyone to live in poverty – everyone is born with the right to food, water, shelter and an education. At ActionAid our mission is to, make sure they get them.

We currently work in over 40 countries across Africa, Asia and the Americas, supporting poor and vulnerable people in their fight for a better life. We work on issues such as women’s rights, HIV and AIDS, education, emergencies and healthcare. We are absolutely dedicated to bringing about long-term, sustainable change, decided upon by the communities themselves.

I Can

I Can

I CAN is the children’s communication charity and is dedicated to supporting all children’s communication development, with a special focus on those with severe communication difficulties.

Communication is the essential life skill, directly impacting on children’s future life chances. It is fundamental to learning, forming relationships, and developing the skills we all need for life and work.

Communication difficulties are not life-threatening but they are life-limiting because children who find communicating hard will find life hard. But the good news is, with the right support at the right time, all these children can be helped; all of them can have the chance to reach their potential.

I CAN delivers information, training, support and online resources for children, families and professionals. At the very heart of I CAN are our two special schools which have been classified as “Outstanding” by OFSTED for the expert care and education to children with problems so severe their needs cannot be met elsewhere.

Our goal is a society in which all children can develop the skills they need to reach their potential.

I CAN is a member of the FundRaising Standards Board and is registered charity number 210031.

Rainbow Trust

Rainbow Trust

Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity provides a unique and special service to families when their child has a life threatening or terminal illness. Set up in 1986, we offer emotional and practical help through our eight teams of Family Support Workers. We aim to maintain a sense of normality, and keep families together. No other organisation provides the extent of professional care and consistency of contact as Rainbow Trust. Our work is a vital emotional and practical lifeline to those who turn to us.

We offer support at any stage of illness, from diagnosis, during treatment and throughout bereavement. Very importantly, there is no time limit to the care we provide. We will stay with a family until they feel that they can cope without our support, sometimes for several years after a child has died. Care is provided to families, irrespective of circumstance, ethnicity, social background, nationality or religion. Many of those who use our services are single parent families with little or no extended family support network.

Hearing Dogs for Deaf People

Hearing Dogs for Deaf Peopletrains dogs to alert their deaf owners to everyday sounds such as the alarm clock, doorbell, telephone and smoke alarm.

Many dogs are selected from rescue centres, giving unwanted dogs useful and happy lives to the benefit of deaf people.

They are trained to alert by touch, using a paw to gain attention and lead their owner back to the sound source. For danger sounds such as the smoke and fire alarm the dogs will lay down to indicate danger.

As well as providing practical assistance, a hearing dog restores a deaf person's sense of security and enables them to lead an independent life with confidence.

Have you seen our new dogs in training on our website? Could you help us to find and socialise more dogs like Denzel, Isaac and Pepsi? Visit our website for more information at www.hearingdogs.org.uk/new-dogs-in-training.php

Children with Leukaemia

Children with Leukaemia

Leukaemia is cancer of the blood. It is the most common childhood cancer in the UK, with more and more children being diagnosed each year. Thankfully, effective treatments now mean that 4 out of 5 children diagnosed will survive. Much, however, remains to be done to improve what can be painful and frightening treatments, and their long term side effects.

CHILDREN with LEUKAEMIA is the leading national charity dedicated to conquering childhood leukaemia. As well as funding pioneering research into improving treatments, we are committed to establishing what causes the disease, and to the welfare of leukaemic children and their families.
